In Sri Lanka, we got used to vendors walking up and down the train carriages selling water, soda, samosas, chips, coffee, tea, tomato soup, yogurt, etc. On the train from Kochi to Kannur in India, however, we saw this man, walking up and down the carriages with books. First thought: hmm, odd. Second thought: AMAZING!!! Because if you have a literate society interested in ideas and culture, and they often have train journeys of 6-30 hours, selling books is a brilliant idea. (The lady across from us bought three.)
